What is special about ABC Sailing training
Sailing theory courses
ABC Sailing was created in response to demand for high quality sailing training. A gap was left by the loss of funding for adult education and, in addition, ABC Sailing recognise that people seek a more professional and modern learning experience. See Testimonials.
The training is active.
You will not be sitting behind a desk staring at a board or projector. You will be actively involved, working in groups as well as individually.
The aim is to enable you to travel by boat from one port to another safely, understanding and solving everyday sailing problems. Of course you will need practical experience and training in addition but the course will give you the grounding so that when you next step aboard you know in theory what to do.
Team learning - just like at sea
Sailing a yacht - sail or power driven - is about working as a team. Learning in this way enables you to share your knowledge, work through new concepts and gain confidence. Once you have sufficient confidence and knowledge you gradually start working on your own but with full support from your instructor.
Individual support
ABC Sailing courses are fun and relaxed. Everyone gets individual attention and have a sense of achievement at the end of the course. If you struggle in the final assessment to make the grade we will do our best to help you come up to standard and give you a chance to do homework and come back, if necessary, for a refresher day at no extra charge.
The ABC method - building on your existing skills and knowledge
You will learn step by step, developing from your current knowledge, which may be quite limited. Some people have experience prior to the course and want to press on, learning fast; ABC Sailing will encourage you with more advanced exercises. Others who are quite new to sailing need time and support to work through what seems like complexity at first. By breaking down each process into manageable steps it is remarkable how you soon come to understand tides, charts and the weather.
Whatever your way of working and speed of learning we will help you. If you are disabled in any way, let us know and we will help. However much experience you have, we will support you to develop your knowledge to the full. Provided you attend the course and reach an acceptable standard you will receive a certificate. If you do struggle on any aspect of the course we will support and help you and give you the opportunity to retake the exam if necessary.
Should you wish to follow up the course with an RYA Day Skipper Practical or the RYA ICC, this can be arranged for you. Visit kippatravels for more.
