You want to start yachting.  Or perhaps you are already a competent crew.  Perhaps you have helmed a yacht with friends.  Now imagine you wish to take a sailing or motor yacht from Poole to Weymouth and on to Lyme Regis. What do you need to know?

Tides - how fast the water moves, how high or low the water gets.

Position - you need to know where you are, and that does not mean simply switching on a GPS (Global Positioning System).

Charts - with ABC Sailing you will learn how to read a chart and conjure a picture in your mind of the coastline and the sea bed (especially around Portland Bill).

Weather - almost every cloud brings wind and rain, but how soon and how bad will it be? Even a clear sky does not mean fair weather at sea. ABC Sailing gives you the tools to do more than just read a forecast but to gain a sense of what is happening so you can identify the warning signs.

Collision Regulations - the highway code of the sea has to be understood but  rather than learning by rote, ABC Sailing helps you to think and understand the importance of avoiding trouble before it is heading straight for you.

For students with some experience we will adapt so that you are developing your knowledge of sailing into new areas.  Perhaps you need to develop your awareness of navigation in fog.  Maybe you have a new yacht and want advice about equipment, diesel engine maintenance or how to make the most of your rig.  ABC Sailing will recognise your existing skills and customise the course so that you get the best value for money.
